Welcome

Willow Tree Harbor isn’t a real place.  I wish it were.  In fact, I’m confident someday it will be, but for now, it’s a place where I can invite friends to visit the strange place that is the mind of …me.

I’m a follower of Christ, have been forever, and will be forever and ever.  Much of this site is called Byways, which is just my musings about family, parenting, working, and living life as a follower of Christ who feels too many American Christians are a little lost and drifting.  I think we make some things too hard and most things too easy, and I think we need to learn to rest.  Friendship and relationships and evangelism and meditation all require rest: work and rest in a rhythm and balance that will allow us to grow individually, communally, and across the world.

I’m a mom of four, with kids aged 21, 20, 17, and 11.  Twenty is a girl who got married and left the nest in August 2011.  The rest are boys, all nesting here at the moment.  I have two home school graduates, one graduating in the spring, and one who is younger who makes me feel younger, too.

My husband and I live in Lexington KY with the kids, four cats, two bunnies, and a dog.  I teach my kids, tutor other kids, teach pottery, clean houses, and basically do what I can to help my husband, who is struggling with long-term unemployment.  I look forward to the day I can post that he is working again!!  He’s an engineer who hopes to do engineering work again someday, although today he’d do anything anyone would pay him money to do.

Please wander my site and enjoy.  Slow down for a minute.  Take a deep breath.  It’s okay.  —Jill

  1. Jill,
Andee Marks sent me your post about your husband’s square peg/round hole dilemma. LOVE it! As a career transitions coach, I see many people who are experiencing what your husband is going through. You have a gift for writing. Please keep writing, the rest of the world needs you to share it so we can grow from it as much as you do.

    Joyfully,
    Rhonda P
